Our featured dog is Blackie.

Blackie is an 8 month old Lab mix pup.  At 48 pounds, he is on the smaller side.  He's a bit slow to warm up, but when he does, he is one fun, sweet, mischievous, and loving pup!  He loves to chew and definitely knows what the chew toys are!  He does know some commands - including Sit, Wait, and Up.  He is housetrained, but he does have a small bladder so he needs more frequent trips outside than an adult dog.  He is very food motivated and therefore easy to train.

He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and heartworm negative.  He is crate trained, though he does fuss a bit about being in there.  He is great with other dogs and, while curious about the cats, mostly leaves them alone.  He is a wonderful little guy looking for a loving, cuddly family of his very own.

Our featured dog is Molly C2011.

Molly is a 6yr. old lab mix who came to Rudy's when her family fell on hard financial times. She's been with me 4 months now, and has made a lot of progress in that time, including losing 15 pounds! It was recently discovered that Molly has hip dysplasia, but that hasn't affected her life all that much. The vet says she should be able to have a pretty comfortable life as long as she keeps her weight down, takes daily glucosamine (which is inexpensive and easy to give), and has a well cushioned dog bed to lay on. Her life really hasn't been negatively impacted by this at all - she still likes to go for nice long walks, jumping around for her toy, and running after her ball.

Molly's crate trained, good with kids, walks well on a leash, rides well in a car, and knows several commands: sit, wait, down, shake, and stay. She doesn't guard food or toys, and takes treats very gently. She plays well with other dogs, but does NOT do well meeting other dogs on a leash. She's learning how to be appropriate though! Molly's a really sweet, loving, playful girl who really needs her forever home. Come meet her and see for yourself!

Our featured dog is Sydney.

Sydney is a 6-year-old chocolate lab who came to us in early July.  Sydney is in a wheelchair/cart as a result of a surgery she had in January 2011 for a back injury.  She receives therapy treatment at TheraVet in Webster, NY, where they are working on getting her to stand and walk again.  Despite her disability, Sydney is a happy, spirited dog.  She loves to go for walks in her wheelchair, especially if she gets to go to new neighborhoods where she can explore and smell new things.  She loves to meet new people and other dogs, and is great with children.  She is truly a wonderful girl, and we are excited to be able to give her a second chance at a normal life.  It is essential that Sydney consistently receive the extensive therapy she needs in order to be able to stand and walk again.  Please visit the Rudy's Rescue
website if you would like to help fund her therapy.  All help is greatly appreciated.  Her foster home has also started a blog to chronicle her recovery.  Please feel free to follow her progress on the blog, "Healing Sydney".

Our featured dog is Nila.

Meet Nila! Nila is a sweet 8 year old black lab who's family had to give her up for financial reasons. She is up to date with vaccinations and will be visiting the vet for a check up soon. Nila is house trained and let's you know when she needs to go outside. She has not used a crate and prefers to sleep on the floor. Nila is very social and is friendly to new dogs and people. We are not sure about cats and kids yet, but will update as soon as we know. Nila can't run much, but she likes to be outside and can go for slow walks. She gets especially excited for meal times and treats. We are still learning about our new friend, but we know that she has a lot of love to give and would be the perfect companion for a family looking for a mellow dog.

Our featured dog is Bella 2011.

Bella is now 1 year old. She is about 40 lbs. Bella continues to be wary  with all men she has met. She runs away from them and is spooked and skiddish when they make a sudden move but comes back to investigate from a distance.  She is slowly adjusting and coming to her foster dad but is not comfortable even after 2 ½ months. Bella is very treat motivated and we have used that to get her close to my husband so he can pet her. She is wary, but tolerates it, and sometimes will come to him when no treat is involved.  We believe she will slowly outgrow this with her primary caregivers but it  is unknown with other males.  She easily bonds to women and older children.

We have learned more about Bella by virtue of having to leave her with another foster family for the weekend. She was very good for the foster’s 15 year old daughter who ended up caring for her the whole weekend. She was ok with the foster mom, but not with the foster dad. However when another dog was introduced between the dad and Bella , she was calmer and allowed him to put the leash on her. These fosters also have a cat and Bella was quite indifferent to it.

Bella gets along well with all dogs so far and has been introduced and played with 7 or 8 different dogs. She relies on them to give her confidence and teach her what to do in a family setting. It seems she spent the first 9 months of her life in a shelter.
She likes to chew her nylabone and play catch with her tennis ball. Without training on our part, she will chase the ball, return it to me and gently let me take it from her. But her favorite thing to do is run and play with our 2 dogs in the back yard. She may be smaller and 20 lbs. lighter than our 2, but she can hold her own very well.

Bella would do well in a home with female presence and older children (10 and up). Another confident dog is a must as Bella feels safe with them and needs to learn from them. A physical fenced in yard would be extremely helpful to help her expend some energy. She would love a daily walk or two.  She will sit on command for the leash to be put on her. She is so loving with me, and it did not take long to develop that bond. A man in the family would need to exert a lot of patience in order to develop a relationship with Bella.

Bella is spayed and up to date on shots.

Our featured dog is Sully.

Hi everyone! My name is Sully, I'm a six year old, neutered, Yellow Lab, who weighs about 89 lbs.

I became blind at the age of four while working at the Federal Building in Manhattan. I was an Explosives Detection K-9. Being blind has not slowed me down one bit, I still like to do all the things dogs have fun doing!

I know basic obedience commands as well as TURN (toward your voice), SLOW, WATCH IT,and CAREFUL. My foster dad says I'm a great dog, I love people, other dogs, cats and even Guinea Pigs. I love to be with my family and touches and rubs will always be accepted with love!

Sully spent the first four years of his life protecting America and OUR freedom! Now it's time for him to be loved and pampered and enjoy this freedom so precious to ALL OF US! Check this sweet boy out you won't be disappointed!
