Lizzy Update Thank you Thomas, William, Mary Ellen, David, Catharine and Nancy! 3/19: Lizzy had her final heartworm treatment yesterday. The vet said she looks great, sounds great and is extremely healthy. On Sunday, March 21, she will be going to her hopefully forever home on a foster-to-adopt basis with a family who has promised to keep her on heartworm preventative for the rest of her life. I am really excited for her to have this "second chance" and her new family, her foster family, and she herself, is so grateful to the people who have helped make this possible--the shelter she came from, the people at Rudy's who have been so supportive, the vets and the emergency vet who have treated her (and me!), the trainer, and of course, the people who have contributed to the enormous cost of her treatment. 2/27: Lizzy was finally well enough to have her heartworm treatment last week. She is what's known as a high positive, meaning that she has a very large number of worms in her heart. In a dog her age, 9 months, this means she was born with these worms that she must have gotten from her mom. 2-9: After struggling to kick a tough-to-beat bout of Kennel Cough, delaying Lizzy's heartworm treatment, she has finally been given the "green light" to start. She has already had her x-rays, which show minimal heart damage. She is scheduled to begin her treatment on February 16. Lizzy is sending hugs and sloppy kisses to all the kind people who have donated to give her a real chance at a good life! |
Tucker Update Thank you Patricia, Thomas, Catharine and Nancy! Tucker was treated for heartworm on January 28th and is doing great! While he's not necessarily happy to be kept as mellow as possible for the moment, he sure is grateful to be healthy and alive. Many thanks to the wonderful people who donated to give Tucker a chance at a forever home. |
